Crafting

Crafting is a type of skill which allows the player that you to craft items, which help progress in the game, for example: crafting Drills, to allow to get rarer resources from Mining, or upgrading the Furnaces to be able to smelt more resources at once.

Smelting

Ores gained though the Mining skills need to be smelted in order to create Bars out of them. Since smelting requires oil, it is advised to invest more into oil generating equipment.

Methods of gaining XP

Crafting is a very useful skill to level up in, and there are many methods of getting XP. Keep in mind this list does not include one-time craftables, these are renewable methods.

Here is a good guide of them:

Crafting bad fishing nets	10 string each	200	Great way to earn extra XP if you have extra string, as it's pretty useless anyway.
Crafting arrows	Feathers, Bars, Wood	15/150/300	Wooden arrows are not worth it, aside from very early game. The resources to craft them are more valuable than the XP they provide, only craft them to use in combat, or if you really need.
Poisoning stinger/stinger dagger	Poison, weapon	150/~3250	Ok, but you can use the stingers with Invention. However, if you have extra stingers or stinger parts, crafting stinger daggers and adding poison can give decent XP.
Crafting Rocket Fuel	5000 Oil, 20 charcoal, 1 lava bucket	1000	A nice extra way to earn XP. However, try to smelt bars first if you can, and use this for extra XP after. Also, note that you should only do this if you don't need the charcoal (for example, you have many good Breeding beavers) or lava.
Converting Stardust with XP	250 - 650 stardust, 1 silver bar	50	Best way to earn XP. Silver/Iron bars are likely your best bar to convert, but earning Stardust is the tricky part.
Crafting Excess Armor	Armor pieces, potentially wool	Varies	This is not a bad way to earn XP, but it is recommended to have some coding knowledge or have an extension that can automatically uncraft/craft armor pieces. Typing into the console websocket.send("CRAFT=lizard_mask~5") will try to craft 5 lizard masks, for example (replace 5 after ~ with amount). And use the needle to uncraft. Try to maximize your XP by using Armor page to see XP per craft. Usually, either craft mask or arms. Crocodile gives over 7000 XP for just crafting gloves, so it is a good idea. Try to have Breeding sheep to get wool, though.
